Romance & Cigarettes
Watching Splash with Tom Hanks on TG4 reminded me of this somewhat more impressive underwater scene from John Turturro's hugely underrated and ignored Romance & Cigarettes. Mind the crude content for ye of a sensitive disposition.

BPLO at HWCH, live on 2XM
Had a fantastic and busy weekend with The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra at this year's Hard Working Class Heroes festival. Really enjoyed our multiple sets (one of them below) and it was nice to meet some great peeps and check out a one or two decent bands along the way (not that there weren't more, just that's all I got to see). It really is a great festival, and I love the feel of the city with all the gigs going on. Even got to meet a few heads I haven't seen in a very long time. Of course, we also had an excuse for a few pints - on a school night can you believe it!

this is becoming a nasty habit . . .
. . . apologies to all West Indie Hour listeners and indeed Play The F**king Note readers, both strands have been suffering lately due to a wide range of factors. There will be more news on both, and a lot more besides, but in the meantime here's a pleasant distraction:

strange . . .
. . . the other day I just remembered that I have a blog. How odd.
And I never post to it any more. Even stranger.
Sadly, being the reasonably impulsive and short-span attentioned young man I am, things tend to drift off. Honestly, sometimes my mind can just wander off right in the middle of sente . . ..

I Heart Huckabees
Great film, great end of bank holiday show for RTE.
Kind of funny when you think about it, the Holy weekend that was in it, all about Jesus and whatnot, to be concluded by a funny and thoroughly existential movie such as I Heart Huckabees. No harm at all. The winning quality is in the little details in this movie, everything from the cutesy soundtrack to the imagination/dream animations, down to Wahlberg's brashness and Tomlin and Hoffman's idiosycracies. Jude Law is also excellent, a pretty different type of role for him. And as for the subject matter, right up my alley . . . one of my favourite movies of all time.
This gag reel is pretty good - check out Dustin Hoffman letting one rip. It belies a stranger working environment as witnessed in this video of director David O Russell going crazy at Lily Tomlin. Nasty.

Oh God Poor America
Okay, so Miley Cyrus wants to meet Radiohead backstage at the grammy's, 'cause they're like one of her like favourite bands like rock Gods and like she would just like cry and like stand out in the cold even if it was like zero degrees out just to meet them, but they said no thanks, "we don't do that".
She says she's going to "tell everyone" and ruin them.
Radiohead spokesman criticizes her 'self of entitlement'.
She is, like, an idiot. Although I feel its not even all her fault.
Warning: following the link to the audio and listening to the radio piece may forever taint your opinion of the United States/the future of radio/humanity in general or at the very least Miley Cyrus.
p.s. - she closes her eyes when singing not because it means a lot but because its awkward like looking at people while you sing.
really don't listen to it.

RE: falling off the face of the earth
Hello,
I just wanted to leave a quick note here in case (God forbid) anyone might actually stumble across this once fine blog, and wonder
"Whatever happened to that young man who used to rant and rave and blog of a time? Such a nice young man."
Well, due to some logistal issues and computer related setbacks/developments, blogging has been postponed for a while.
I do hope to return to play the f**king note in the future, so please don't forget about us forever. Who knows, some day you might be thinking to yourself (in an English accent)
"I do wonder whether that nice young man has gotten up off his arse and posted any delightful blogs. Such a nice arse."

ah hello again
It's been an extremely long time since my last post, so there is a bit of news to catch up on. I suppose first and foremost is my new job as presenter of The Cinema Show on Spin South West. I'll be presenting an hour long look at the latest in cinema and DVD releases, news, reviews and interviews.
Started just before Christmas and most recently Alan Owens of The Limerick Leader joined me for a bit of a ram-shackle preview of 2009 movies (just can't get out of lazy Christmas mode!). Here's one I'm really looking forward to:
So be sure to tune into the Cinema Show on Spin South West 8.45 - 9.45pm Sundays!! I'll try to get my head around Podcasts and all that jazz too.
